About the Opportunity

Marten Falls First Nation (MFFN) has exciting opportunities for multiple full-time Teachers to join Henry Coaster Memorial School in Marten Falls, ON, including:

  • Early Childhood Educator
  • Kindergarten Teacher
  • Special Education Teacher

The successful candidates must relocate to Marten Falls, fully immersing themselves in the community to better serve and understand our students' needs.

Reporting to the School Principal, you will play a pivotal role in assessing, guiding, and encouraging students while developing and implementing lesson plans and culturally responsive curricula.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for fostering a supportive learning environment that promotes cultural integration, student engagement, and holistic development.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Planning and preparing lessons tailored to individual needs and examination syllabi
  • Encouraging student participation in school activities and community events
  • Observing and managing classroom dynamics effectively
  • Teaching small class sizes to build strong teacher-student relationships
  • Incorporating local culture, language, and community activities into classroom teaching
  • Assessing student progress and providing individualized support and guidance
  • Collaborating with colleagues and community members to support student development
  • Attending parent-teacher conferences, staff meetings, and cultural initiatives
  • Supporting students' well-being and promoting an inclusive school culture
  • Participating in professional development and mentorship programs to enhance teaching skills

About You

To qualify, you will hold an Ontario teaching certificate or certification from another province, with candidates working toward Ontario certification also considered.

While previous teaching experience is an asset, what matters most is your motivation, adaptability, and ability to create an interactive and culturally responsive learning environment.

For these roles, the following qualifications are ideal:

  • An ECE diploma for the Early Childhood Educator
  • A Special Education diploma for the Special Education Teacher

The following skills and experience will be strong assets:

  • Knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and languages, particularly Ojibwe, Oji-Cree, and Cree
  • Experience teaching in culturally responsive, inclusive, and trauma-informed environments
  • Strong classroom management and the ability to design engaging, adaptable lesson plans, including play-based and literacy-focused methods (Kindergarten-specific)
  • Familiarity with neurodiversity and strategies to support students with special needs, including autism (Special Education-specific)
  • Ability to collaborate with community members, including elders and families, to foster holistic student development
  • Proficiency with technology-enhanced teaching tools and assessment methods
  • Enthusiasm for professional development, mentorship, and engaging in cultural activities
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills to inspire teamwork and vibrant classroom environments

Compensation based on certifications, skills, and experience, is a competitive annual salary of $80,000 to $116,000 (evaluated upon your current teaching certificate), plus a host of excellent benefits including:
